The wonderful Massachusetts based Brown's opened around the end of the 19th century making leisurewear from their signature 'beach cloth' a mixture of cotton and wool. They would be very popular in both jacket and vest form, and the company would prosper until the rise of synthetic fabrics in the 60s. More recently, these have seen a great revival with the vintage crowd, and a now much in demand. This version is from the late 1930s to 1940s. Its got a lovely faded brown colour, and rather unusually comes with unbranded early nipple snaps. I suspect this might be a WW2 period piece with plain buttons due to war rationing. Its does have the early nipple snaps
