Founded in Detroit in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt, long before being today's fashion giant, it was a classic American workwear brand. Throughtout the early and mid 20th century, the brand would provide it's blue collar worker audience with the denim and duck canvas clothing needed for work in factories, railroads and fields. Now incredibly popular with the vintage denim market, the brand and it's railcar tag are amongst the most sought-after vintage pieces.
And what a piece this is... I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the 'distressed' vintage look, but exceptions can be made, and these are truly exceptional. A wonderful pair of 1940s Carhartt overalls, with patina and paintwork that is absolutely unmatchable. A beautiful range of soft pastel paint colours (cream, taupe, salmon, sage green etc) and heavy splattering on the knees would suggest a decorator standing on a ladder painting houses. This really is an outstanding piece of vintage, I don't wear overalls, but I'd love to keep these!
Condition
Beyond the paint, the overalls are in remarkable shape with no damage as all. All the metalwork is present and correct, the union made tag present though faded, and they're actually still pretty clean (well off-white).
