I've found a quite a few 1940s leathers in my time, but never one this clean! A beautiful heavy horsehide leather body with a slightly softer leather sleeve. Original late 30s Conmar bell zipper works like a charm, wool lining is perfect and the tag is still as it was when made. Made by W.B. Place & Co of Hartford WI, Place opened its tannery doors in 1860 when they would custom make jackets for anyone who brought hides to the tannery for a much reduced price. Unfortunately Place was purchased in 2008, though the tannery still operates under a different name.
Condition
Perfect, the only issue I can see is a hole beneath the left armpit that seems to have been in the hide and manufactured this way.
