A classic piece of WW2 clothing, and one of the most in-demand pieces in the vintage world. Many people erroneously refer to these as desert smocks, but these were actually designed for use in mountains, the tawny colour providing some camouflage in natural environments. The classic British windproof smock was introduced early in the war, and would go on to be used extensively by the British in various guises well into the 90s. I've got pictures of guys wearing these from WW2 through to Desert Storm!
