Did someone say sweatshirt? Maybe it's just me, but it seems vintage sweatshirts are all that rage these days, and sometimes you just have to get on the bandwagon! And what a way to do it! To me, the iconic shortsleeved 1st Marine Division Viet Nam sweatshirt has always been the Cadillac of sweats, and it's an absolute pleasure to find and present here a completely deadstock one still in it's packet, straight out of an estate, and only opened once (very very carefully) to be photographed and measured.
The 1st Marine Division wad deployed in Vietnam from 1965-71, and these were certainly provided to troops at some point during the conflict in small numbers. I can't find any photos of these being worn in-country, and the presence of an RN number (a database reference for a US based manufacturer) suggests these would have been made and worn stateside for training.
