Another classic piece of WW2 survival equipment. A vast improvement on the Battle of Britain era 32 pattern Mae West, these were equipped with all the necessities should a pilot have to ditch in water. Firstly, a set of buoyant kapok pads, supported with an inflatable bladder to help keep the pilot afloat. A whistle, and reflective heliograph mirror sit in the pockets over the chest, along with a bright yellow skull cap. On the right hip a water activated light, and on the reverse a dye pack to make it easier to see in water. These would serve in every theatre with the RAF, as well as being used widely by the American USAAF in Europe. They would still be used well into the postwar period until being replaced in the 1950s.
Condition
This is in used but solid condition. It's a bit grubby, but no damage. The original set of kapok pads are included, as is the heliograph and the skull cap. The dye pack flap has been stitched closed. I'm happy to help the new owner source the bladder and light if needed. When I got this the zipper on the back of the neck had been replaced with some trashy rubbish, so I've popped that out and put in a period correct Kynhook (sub-brand of Lightning).
