Red Head first appeared as brand around 1908, and despite multiple changes of ownership, is still manufactured today. This piece is from the brand's golden age, a wonderful 1930s-40s fishing jacket, made from amazing materials and in an awesome pattern. The fabric itself is an incredibly tightly woven cotton, almost like ventile, but I think more like a cotton poplin. A complex cropped body construction includes four pockets on the chest, four pockets on the inside, a pocket on the left sleeve along with a pouch for keeping one's fishing flies, and the statement large pocket on the back. There are large gussets in the armpit allowing for maximum shoulder movement, I imagine very helpful when casting for trout! All of the buttons are Red Head branded, and the metal snaps all 1940s United Carr company branded. A wonderfully utilitarian garment in exceptional condition.
