By the time the Korean War started, the Air Force had separated from the Army and was trying to improve its image as a smarter service. The artwork that has been popular on the flight jackets of WW2 was frowned upon, and instead airmen turned to caps to shows some individuality and camaraderie with their fellow squadron members.
This beautiful cap was handmade in Japan by the same artisan who created the amazing contrast colour caps that became popular with the 98th Bomb Group. The patch is hand stitched, and the cap made from high quality cotton, with a cotton lining and leather sweatband.

This is in amazing condition. These caps are usually battered, but this one has strong colours, little wear and even still shows both the original stamped size and makers marks
