The design is very much descendent of the M42 paratrooper jump jacket, and the jungle jacket would become the standard fatigue wear of the US military in Vietnam. This early 1964 first pattern version features exposed buttons, which would be covered on later patterns as they were getting caught in the bush, and epaulettes. This features shadows of special forces on the shoulder, and removed ARMY tapes, etc. This comes from the estate of Charles \"Chuck\" Aichner, who joined the army out of college in the early 1960s and served with Special Forces as a Green Beret.
