This is a very rare piece indeed, and in absolutely phenomenal condition. This was made around 1941 for the Army in very limited numbers. The design and weave is fairly similar to the later V-neck sweater, but featured an incredibly high turtleneck. I can only find a few scant images of these, fewer that retain their tags. Bamberger Reinthal and Goodwear Knitting Mills both had contracts in June and August of 1941, though many seem to have been cutdown and had their turtlenecks removed by QMs. These are incredible rare to find, especially in both a wearable size and excellent condition.
