It's always nice to something new and different, and this jacket has been something I've been chasing for a while, these are a remarkably rare piece! A very simple garment, these are essentially an oilskin (this like the outer shell of a Belstaff) outer layer that would be worn over other layers when is rain or heavy seas. I don't think these were in service for very long before being replaced by the pullover style rubberised parka, and thus I've only ever seen photos of one or two others. They were originally supplied to ships as part of a suit with matching trousers and a sou'wester hat

As mentioned in the 1941 USN Uniform Regs (yeah I'm the kinda nerd who reads those) the purpose of Foul-Weather clothing is to provide protection for enlisted personnel assigned to duty in which they are exposed to rain or spray... This garment shall be made of waterproof material... The collar shall be so constructed that it may be fastened around neck or worn turned down...  there shall be no pockets and it shall be of such length to reach approximately to the crotch line.

Condition

Very nice condition, some storage marks throughout. I've fixed one period repair to what seems to be a popped seam down the front.
