In pretty much every theatre of WW2 cottage industries sprang up to provide servicemen with gifts and mementos to send home, and the Philippines were no different. These belt buckles are were made for sailors, and feature a spectacular variety of designs and customized artwork. This particular version is very slightly postwar made, named, and I've traced owner. Gunnersmate John Schorling is on crew manifests for the USS Boxer, which was cruising that area of the pacific at the time.
Condition
Beautiful worn condition. I've put this into a handmade Horween leather strap, but only used screw rivets so this can be removed easily if desired.
