Fun fact... 50 miles northwest of Midway lies a tiny Island, only a hundred miles from the international dateline, and 1400 miles from Honolulu. This island, the westernmost of the Hawaiian islands is called Kure, a small atoll composed of a coral ringed lagoon and two tiny islands. It was on this small, remote part of the US that in 1960 the US Navy and Coast Guard established a LORAN navigation post - essentially a radio transmitter to help ships locate their position. This cap set was made for one of the few hundred Coast Guardmen who were stationed on the island from 1960-the end of the 70s. Based on the construction, these were made in Japan in the early to mid 1960s, and are in deadstock condition. I bought the bigger one, and was sent the smaller one for free, so I intend to do the same and keep them as set!
Condition
Absolutely mint and seemingly unworn. There is some flaking of a plastic coating on the inside of the sweatband but otherwise absolutely perfect.
