Rarely do you find original WW2 leather jackets in such fine shape as this one! This is an incredible example of the 2nd iteration of the G1 family, the AN-6552 or AN-J-3A. As the war progressed, the US military sought to find equipment that could be used by both the Navy and Army Air Force. Whilst never used by the Air Force, the Navy would retain the AN  (Army Navy) series, though somewhat confusingly issued contracts for the same jacket, under two different designations - N-6552 and AN-J-3A. This example was made by Monarch in 1945, and seems to have been issued quickly. The patch belongs to a short-lived squadron VBF-17 or Fighter Bomber Squadron 17, who flew Wildcats in the closing months of WW2 including the campaigns for Iwo Jima and Okinawa. It features everything you would expect of one of these including a black stamped US across the back of the neck.

Amazing! The only issues are a run in the waist band and a missing button, otherwise its completely perfect!
