A few weeks ago the eagle eyed will remember seeing a some CC2 invasion trousers on my page that went to live in Normandy as the D-Day museum. Well it's great to find a matching smock. Not just old overdyed smock (most of the coloured versions of these were dyed postwar for the civilian market), these rare pieces were dyed/impregnated by the Navy with CC2 (Chloramide - a disinfectant found in drinking water) that was designed to help prevent chemical burns in the case of gas attack. There are many photos of the earlier button through gas smocks being worn by beach battalions on D-Day. Whilst this style of smock may have been a little too late for use on D-Day, these may have been impregnated for use in later invasions - Operation Dragoon, the pacific etc. It's easy to spot a CC2 smock, the green colour will not be uniform, and on the reverse there is a faint code that I've seen printed on all invasion smocks. And don't worry, this has long been washed so the wax feel and smell associated with CC2 have long since gone!
Condition
Solid used condition, a few tiny holes, and the straps on the sleeves have been removed, but otherwise great.
