What an absolutely stunning piece! This wonderful handmade bag is named to Benito Ghiselli (or Benny), a Seaman First Class Seabee from Evanston Illinois. Amazing artwork to both sides and ends. I don't have a huge amount of info on his service, but I do know in November 1943 he was stationed at the Naval Construction Training Centre, Williamsburg VA. From his obituary, i can see he joined the Evanston Fire Department in the early 50s, and served for 30 years retiring in 1981. Benny passed in 2013 aged 89.

Amazing shape! When it arrived with me the original zipper had rotted, but I've replaced it with a period correct Conmar that works just as well.
