I've come across a fair few of these in my time, but none have been modified quite as beautifully as this! The Colvinex heated flight suit was developed by the US Navy for use in extreme cold weather - there are quite a few photos of Catalina pilots in the Aleutian Islands wearing these very heavy suits about to go on long and very frosty patrols! In the postwar period, the design of these suits, essentially and jacket and trousers sewn together at the waist, were perfect for modification. Most have been cut into a belted jacket, but this is very different. A press stud fastening waistband has been added, but also two hand pockets into the body of the jacket. The workmanship on this is incredible, it's clearly been done by a very talented tailor. Possibly used for motorcycling or hot rodding. This really is a beautiful and unique piece.

Condition

This is in amazing shape, the leather is very soft and wearable, the zipper works like charm and there is no damage. The collar has balded a touch on the leading edge, but otherwise the fur is very good. There is a little yellowing and staining to the lining, and the cuffs have some issues, but nothing major.
