The new, more appropriately coloured green and khaki uniforms would have a N reference number, N-1, N-2 and N-3. Issued as part of a four piece utility uniform, along with a shirt, trousers and jacket, the N-3 utility cap would be made from the same strong HBT material that the army was using, and drew heavily on the USAAF's A-3 mechanic cap.
