One of the most sought-after and hard to find pieces of USMC militaria. The classic P41 is well known, but what truly makes this stand out is the stamp on the reverse. This is a UNIS stamp - Unit Numerical Identification System. From my research, the UNIS system was adopted in 1944 following the conclusion of the Marshall Islands campaign. Each division had a different shaped stamp on their equipment, within the shaped stamp a number for the unit and above the stamp a number for rank. In this example, the 2 signifies Sergeant, the 52X signifies 2nd Battalion 25th Marines, and the semi-circle the 4th Marine Division. What's more interesting is faintly inside you can see the name Jackson, with what I believe to be an R infront of it. I've looked through the records and I believe this is to be Richard M Jackson who indeed served with 2nd BN 25 Mar, in HQ Company. He would be with this unit from 1943 until the end of the war, meaning he 100% served participated in the Battle of Kwajalein, Saipan, Battle of Tinian and the Battle of Iwo Jima. I've included one of the muster rolls from April 1945 in the listing.
