An absolutely mindblowing deck jacket - maybe the best painted N1 I've ever seen. This wonderful piece comes from the estate of a named crewman who served in the radio room of the submarine USS Balao as a Technicians Mate Third Class. He was a Soapbox racer of some note, and later went on to a career in electrical engineering. I have much more information on him that will go to the new owner.
The jacket itself is a later war N1 - you can just make out the Navy Department and SIZE on the tag indicative of the later 1944 - 45 manufacturing date. The artwork on the back is absolutely amazing, from the boat's battleflag designed by Disney in 1945. The boat served was in the PTO, decommissioning in 1946, when the owner was also honourably discharged from the Navy. Few come along this good.
Condition
Used and worn, but solid. I've done some light touch repairs to get in back into its original configuration, including a new zipper, removing some terrible repairs to the button holes and hanging strap. The fur around the collar is worn, as are areas of the cuffs etc. The button holes are worn and should be used with care. Solid and wearable
