The Trialmaster is one of my favourite designs of all time, a timeless classic that looks as good on a motorcycle as it does on a catwalk! The Trialmaster was first introduced in the 1950s, and quickly became the staple jacket for the explosion in popularity of motorcycling in postwar Britain. Worn on the backs of everyone from Che Guevara to the 59 Club, the Trailmaster was the jacket of choice for a generation of bikers! Belstaff have always been a brand keen to work with racing teams, and the much coveted red and green Trialmasters were produced in the later 1960s - 70s for racing teams in very limited quantities.
This particular example came to me in a rather strange condition, it seems to have been partially cleaned (original photo included) with large dark marks under the pocket flaps and on the reverse. This week's labour of love has been to give it a thorough cleaning to move these marks and get a more consistent finish across the shell, and rewax. The output is amazing, the photos don't really do the colour justice, it's a beautiful deep bottle green. As with any fresh rewax, there will be a little residue that comes off on touch, but this will settle over time, and the jacket will pick up amazing patina with a little wear. A stunning example of a much in-demand jacket that is ready for the next 50 years.
Condition
This is in amazing shape. Beyond the fresh clean and rewax, the lining is absolutely perfect. The original lightning zipper works like a charm, belt is present and correct etc. There was one of the male side push studs missing, which I've had professionally replace - it's a little shiner that the other but this will tarnish over time. There is one of the pit vents missing, but given this isn't an area that receives a lot of wear it shouldn't present any problems in the future.
