A beautiful piece of vintage Americana. Not quite as famous as the Abercrombie version, but in my humble opinion, I actually prefer the four pocket design.
These appear in the Spring 1973 LL Bean catalog, titled "Rainbow Lake Jackets". The description is as follows:
"Attractive "Rainbow" fabric combines colourful corduroy panels with firmly woven poplins. Wind resistant, water repellant and dry cleanable. Practical hip length design with button front and cuffed sleeves. Comfortably pleated back, two flapped breast pockets and lower hand pockets."
With the Abercrombie version famously being worn by Hunter S Thompson, and by Johnny Depp in Fear in Loathing, these rare pieces have become much sought after by vintage collectors, archivists and Thompson fans!
Condition
This particular example is in phenomenal condition, and looks great on. The colours are super strong and there is no damage or wearing to the fabrics. There is one tiny handmade repair to the left shoulder, which actually really suits the feel of the jacket.
