In 1942, as the US prepared for a war across all continents and climates, it looked at how it was equipping its specialised troops, particularly the 10th Mountain Division. This design was actually the basis for the subsequent M43 Field Jacket that would be widely issued, and feels like it's much bigger brother.
And what a piece this is... So many amazing details, particularly the internal backpack and suspenders. It features a wrap-around hood that folds back and sits in a pocket at the collar. Chunky Talon zips throughout. A true pioneer in outdoor clothing, with many of the details from this going on to become commonplace in military, mountaineering and hunting wear.
Condition:
This beauty is in amazing condition. It retains all the original features, zips, buttons etc. The internal belt retains the QM stamp, and it has the size stamp faintly beneath the collar. The original label is present but faded. There are two small tears to the lining both of which don't go through to the shell, i can repair these should the new owner desire. There are a few marks on the back but likely these would wash out.
