It's hard to really impress the rarity of this piece... I'm going to put it out there that I could more easily get a denim one. These very rare jackets were specifically made for D-Day. Not just any old overdyed smock (most of the coloured versions of these were dyed postwar for the civilian market), these rare pieces were dyed/impregnated by the Navy with CC2 (Chloramide - a disinfectant found in drinking water) that was designed to help prevent chemical burns in the case of gas attack. There are many photos of these being worn by beach battalions on D-Day, and due to the nature of CC2 (its waxy, smell and wasn't nice to wear) most were abandoned and destroyed. I've only ever seen maybe 1 or 2 others, most of which live in museums!
Condition
Solid used condition, no damage at all. The CC2 has clearly been washed a few times, the fabric retains a slight waxy feel and the distinct mottled pale green colour, but there is no pungent smell. It does very fainly have the code on the lower back (underlined with the pencil) associated with CC2 garments.
